The sun might have been shadowed by the moon during the total solar eclipse, but the (Hollywod) stars were out to witness the celestial spectacle.
The eclipse on Monday covered hundreds of cities and towns in a 115-mile-wide path of totality across 13 states in the United States, temporarily leaving communities in darkness. The next time a total eclipse will be visible in the U.S. will be in 2044.
As the rare event cast a partial or full shadow across North American cities, celebrities including Kevin Bacon, Jason Derulo and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others, took to social media to share how they were celebrating.

Nicky Hilton watches the eclipse with daughters Lily-Grace and Teddy
Nicky Hilton shared a photo of herself and her daughters, 7-year-old Lily-Grace and 6-year-old Teddy, looking up at the sky outside a playground as they sported glasses.
"A little after school solar eclipse experience. 🌘🌚🕶️," she captioned the image.
Jason Derulo claims he can see the eclipse 'without my glasses'
After performing on the "Today" show with Michael Bublé, Jason Derulo took to the streets of New York to view the eclipse with comedic influencers Haley Kalil and Max Goodrich.
"I can see it without my glasses," Derulo captioned a picture of the three of them looking at the sky, with the "Talk Dirty" singer being the only one without eclipse glasses.
Kalil and Derulo also shared a Reel in which she hands him a pair of glasses but he peeks up at the sun without eyewear and winces, making a pained sound. (Needless to say, don't do this at home!)
Jessica Biel urges followers to 'get outside now' for the eclipse
Jessica Biel shared a PSA with her 14 million Instagram followers on Monday.
"If you have your glasses… get out outside now!! 😎" she wrote alongside a selfie of the actress smiling as she wore eclipse glasses.
Jamie Lee Curtis uses the eclipse to make a wish
Jamie Lee Curtis had a more somber outlook on Monday.
"Praying the eclipse can reset the world to one at peace!" the "Everything Everywhere All at Once" actor wrote in the caption of a photo of herself looking up at the sky through a window and holding her hands together in prayer while wearing eclipse glasses.
Jessica Alba reflects during eclipse and sends 'so much love and light'
Jessica Alba was also feeling contemplative and shared several paragraphs musing about the event's impact.
"Eclipses are all about new beginnings but this one has such an element of closure - about letting go so you can walk through a new portal and move into your power," she captioned the post. " Wherever you are, whether you may be able to see the eclipse or not, it will be felt energetically around the world - so I hope you take a moment to connect, fill yourself with love, meditate with the energy, let go of what no longer serves you."
Alba urged her followers to "take time to reflect, go in, sit with yourself - and just ask yourself what doesn't belong to you?" She added: "It's time to align with you - and chose YOU. Who are you and what do YOU want? What is your soul here to do and manifest? Sending so much love and light."
Kevin Bacon takes a break from filming to watch eclipse
Bacon took a moment out of filming the Amazon Prime Video horror-action series "The Bondsman" to look up at the sky – while wearing protective eyewear, of course – with co-stars Jennifer Nettles and Beth Grant.
"Working hard on The Bondsman. #Eclipse," he wrote in the picture's caption.
Jenna Fischer, Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi, more stars look up to watch the 2024 total solar eclipse
"The Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi shared photos of herself with her kids watching the eclipse Monday.
"See you in 20 years. Anyone know if the portal opened?" she captioned the post.
"The Office" alum Jenna Fischer shared a selfie and captioned it, "Saw it. (Well, saw 45% of it.)."
Fischer's former "The Office" co-star Angela Kinsey also took to Instagram to share a photo of herself looking up at the sky.
"Hey there partial eclipse! Love seeing everyone’s reactions who are in the path of totality," Kinsey wrote in the caption. "Also, I feel like there should be a movie called “Path of Totality”. And yes my tshirt says Hotdog Fingers. Happy Eclipse Day!"
